I am the Wonkmistress, creator of things weird and janky. I have been interested in art since I was a small child. I would grab a pencil and paper and draw whatever crazy things come into my mind.
In addition to art, I am also big into gaming and technology. Ever since I had my first computer in the early 2000s, I was amazed by the many games I would come across in both physical CD-ROM form and in digital downloads from various gaming websites. I liked all kinds of video games but adventure games are my personal favorites, for they would focus on the intricate worldbuilding and the many ways the player can influence the story.
Because I didn't have a lot of money growing up, much of my childhood consisted of flash games, edutainment games and the various weird indie games I would come across on platforms like ArcadeTown or WildTangent. These games would often have such strange worldbuilding that you could barely see anyone online try to replicate them (outside of the aesthetics from Newgrounds-style flash games). Seriously, I would hear of stuff like "Dreamcore" and "Weirdcore" but I could not see anything that resembled the stuff I saw growing up.
I have always heard of the weirdness of sites like GeoCities and AngelFire since I would always see these sites referenced when talking about "the old web". Since my earliest memories of the internet came from messing around AOL channels and some independant websites like KiddoNet and MaMaMedia, I was not able to see "the old web" in its rawest form. However, these sites do tie into my nostalgia for the dot-com era of the Internet as they showcased the limitless potential we could have had in the dawn of the new millenium. Of course, there were plenty of not so good stuff that came from that time period (shock sites, Internet-enabled devices that become paperweights when sever shuts down, a crash that nearly mangled the economy, etc.) but I would find myself longing to see what being a netizen is like during that time. Now with social media sites taking full dominance over the Internet, these wild-west times are starting to look more desirable to me.
I have created this website to serve as a repository for my Twine games (since sites like Wordpress and Weebly would not run them properly) and as a way to showcase my serious art portfolio independant of sites like Instagram. I will still use sites like Instagram to give updates, but I will use this site to archive my more serious artworks.
